The party has started again at a popular York nightspot.
Popworld on George Hudson Street has reopened its doors following the pandemic – and after a £300K makeover.
The club now boasts a new interior, including a neon graphic design wall, even more booths, a new bar, and a classic photobooth.

It’s first time it has reopened fully since lockdown began in March 2020.
A spokesperson for the Stonegate Group, which owns Popworld, said: “Those that love the venue’s eye-catching colour palette of yellow, pink, aqua and purples, need not fear; they’re back, and the famous rotating dance floor has not gone anywhere either!”
Popworld is marking its relaunch with a series of events, including the popular club nights WKD Wednesdays, Thirsty Thursdays, Club Classics and more.
And you don’t have to shout your request into the ear of the DJ any more. Thanks to the Shoutzie app, partygoers can scan a QR code and have their favourite songs mixed into the set, “alongside retro videos that re-run the fun and bring back all the memories”.
There will be cocktails, including the Skittlebomb, and the usual range of party tunes from the likes of S Club 7, Destiny’s Child and Ed Sheeran.
General manager at Popworld York Richard said: “We’re thrilled to be open again especially with our fresh new look.
“The response to the reopening has been amazing and we’ve loved welcoming back both old and new faces. It’s been great to see everyone coming together and having a good time at Popworld, especially after such a tough year.”
It opens 10pm-3am Sunday to Thursday, 9pm-3am on Fridays, and 4pm to 3am on Saturdays. More here.
