It is one of York’s best-known bars. And now Yates has been given a very lavish glow-up.
The riverside pub was closed for most of January as it underwent a £300,000 makeover.
It reopens tonight (Friday, 2 February), with a grand relaunch VIP party from 5pm till 9pm, before being open the general public from 9pm.
Go through the new, blue-themed entrance and you will enter a pub where nothing has been left untouched.
All the fixtures and fittings are new, including large, brightly upholstered booths and a revamped bar with glowing under-lights.
The back room on the ground floor, overlooking the river, now has two booths with their own TVs, and can be hired as a smaller meeting room. The large function room upstairs has also been renovated.
There’s a new DJ booth that converts during the day into a table. A sports zone featuring a widescreen TV is good for those big games.
And the conservatory at the back now comes with a very Instagrammable throne, floral backdrop and neon sign declaring, ‘I’m a Limited Edition’.
The team behind Yates are hopeful that the changes will encourage people to linger longer for food, drink TV sports and music.
Yates now has a different form of entertainment every night – the Monday quiz, Drag Bingo on Tuesday, PAP (pound a pint) Wednesdays, Thursday is Karaoke Night, the Friday Social has a DJ from 9pm, SaturYay features party anthems, and live music rounds off the week on Sunday.
