First look: Inside York’s wizard new family attraction
What do you get when you sprinkle a little magic onto one of the one of the all-time favourite family games?
The answer is the Hole In Wand. York’s latest attraction combines mini golf with some spell-binding wizardry to create what will surely be a must-visit venue when it opens on 17 May.
Even better, you can book your slot from today (Wednesday).
Found directly opposite the Jorvik Centre, the Hold In Wand is the brainchild of York entrepreneurs Ben Fry and Phil Pinder, who spent lockdown transforming the former Patisserie Valerie site into something very special.
Visitors join the hunt for the gargoyle, Grobblenook, who has made his home between the bubbling cauldrons, magical portals and mysterious potions in the Coppergate attraction.
“We are desperate to share the magic of the Hole In Wand with the families of York,” said Director of Wizardry, Phil Pinder who also runs the Potions Cauldron with Ben on Shambles.
“Our course has been designed to bring the magic back into days out after lockdown.
“From our giant picture frame where players might become part of the painting to teaching a special light spell to illumine the way forward we will give our visitors a fantastical experience as they help us search for Grobblenook.”
Times and tickets
This new nine-hole themed mini-golf course is just part of the experience.
Visitors can also tuck into some magical refreshments, including a Wand Dog, Uni-pop-corn or GrobbleNachos, and a delicious potion with alcoholic options for grown up spell makers.
As soon as restrictions are further relaxed there are plans for special events, including birthday party experiences.
The Hole In Wand is due to open its doors to visitors on Monday 17 May, when lockdown restrictions lift.
Visitors are encouraged to pre-book a timeslot in advance, saving any queuing time.
Tickets go live at 9am today and are £6.99 per person, to include a round of Wizard Golf and a spellbound potion.
Trainee wizards must be three years old or over and the maximum group size is six.
