This is how York Minster’s new restaurant looks inside.
The York Minster Refectory was officially opened by the King and Queen Consort after they distributed the Maundy Money in the cathedral yesterday.
And to celebrate, the team behind the Refectory shared pictures of the new look on its Instagram feed.
It has been converted from the Grade II listed 19th century Minster School.
The brasserie-style restaurant is taking bookings from 20 April on its website, and is now open for walk-ins.
Andrew Pern, who runs the Star Inn at Harome and the Star Inn The City in York has overseen the menus with executive head chef Joshual Brimmell.
You can read examples of the menus and prices here.
The website says: “Typical dishes on the menu are carpaccio of Yorkshire venison with garden beetroots, rocket pesto and Spenwood shavings; braised oxtail in a beer broth with button mushroom, pearl onion, bacon and smoked potato; or granny’s tipsy sherry trifle.
“In other words, everything that is good about the food, drink, people and places of York and Yorkshire!”
Rachel McLane is behind the look of the Refectory. She said her designs were intended to “respect and enhance” the old school and do “justice to its historical importance”.
And as we reported on Friday, there’s a newly landscaped garden to enjoy on sunnier days.
