Seeing is not always believing… at least that’s the case in this brand new attraction now open in York.
The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring opened its doors on Merchantgate today (Friday), and is inviting visitors to explore a world of extraordinary optical illusions and interactive exhibits.
With more than 20 jaw-dropping illusions to discover, be prepared for your brain to get into a tangle!
The new attraction is the brainchild of Matthew and Marianne Tritton-Hughes, who are bringing more than 45 years of customer service and hospitality experience into crafting this magical new venture.
YorkMix spoke with Matthew to find out more about this new brain-bending experience.
“The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring is all about immersive, interactive exhibits, themed-room sets and mind boggling attractions,” he explained.
On coming up with the concept, Matthew said that “York is well known for it’s world-renowned attractions – mainly heritage based sites. We wanted to create something that had a great theme.
“We decided to create the Professor, who was based on an 18th century inventor and explorer. He’s got a steampunk vibe to him as well, and we wanted to make him look really friendly. I hope we’ve achieved that!”
The attraction is great for couples, families and groups of friends – and is for everyone aged five to 105.
Early reaction “has been really positive so far,” Matthew said.
“We’ve had groups going around and you can see the smiles on their faces as they go into each exhibit and themed room.
“It’s really good fun. And it’s a place you need to bring your phone camera!”
Among the spellbinding illusions, there’s the Head Havoc Parlour where people’s heads appear severed on a dining room table from underneath a cloche, a sideways living room where gravity seems to defy logic, and a room where children suddenly appear taller than their parents.
Though Matthew said that it would be a dream to expand The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring to other cities, he said they want to “concentrate on this one first.
“We’ve got a great team of staff and we want to make sure this one is the best it can be. Then hopefully we can replicate that in other cities across the country.”
The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring is open from 11am to 5pm on Sunday to Fridays, and Saturdays from 11am to 6pm.
Admission tickets are £9.99 for those aged 16+, with concession tickets available.
