“Don’t worry, we’ve still got the revolving dance floor,” Matt Toft, General Manager of Pop World told YorkMix.
The iconic York nightclub is reopening tonight (8 May) following a month-long refurbishment that includes a 150+ capacity expansion, a full redecoration, and double the number of women’s toilets, meaning no more queues down the stairs.
Located on George Hudson Street, Popworld has long been known for its impressive drinks deals. Now, their revamped pricing plan has made things even more appealing.
Selected drinks will be priced at £2.50 from Sunday through Thursday. On top of that, weekend deals include 50% off everything before midnight on Fridays, and before 7pm on Saturdays.
Matt explained that one of the nightspots main goals was to bring the pricing down, as he felt it had been too expensive over the last couple of years.
“We’re bringing it back to the customer driving the volume, we’d rather have the place full every night, than half full but drinks double the price,” he told YorkMix.
Popworld closed its doors on 5 April for the renovation, and staff have worked tirelessly over the last month to transform the space.
The expanded layout features a brand-new bar, more room for dancing, and an area that can be used for private events or special occasions.
The club has also undergone a full makeover, including new sound and lighting systems designed to “turn the atmosphere up a notch.”
The expanded female toilets will also ensure less queuing time and a more customer-friendly experience for clubbers.
Despite working 20-hour days in the lead-up to the relaunch, Matt is looking forward to the grand reopening this evening.
“I think the atmosphere will carry me through tonight,” he joked.
Popworld is anticipating a large turnout, including a competition winner and her friends who will be arriving in style by limousine.
Staff from other local bars are also set to attend, in what should be an exciting event for York’s nightlife scene.
