Two brothers are opening a new restaurant and bar in York.
Wes and Joel Taylor, originally from Lancashire, will open Cut & Chase on Goodramgate on Wednesday (1 June).
It is housed in the premises formerly belonging to the Kafeneion café – although the interior has been completely redesigned.
It will mainly serve modern British foods such as chicken and steak, as well as cocktails made by Joel.
Head chef Mike Cummings told YorkMix: “What’s going to be different is how we serve it – and we want everything to be homemade.”
Wes said:
It’s something in the middle because we feel there is a niche in the market where people can eat good wholesome foods.
Grub’s up, from brunch on
“There will be British, homemade and traditional dishes from Yorkshire but with a bit of a twist,” Wes added.
“We have some fantastic cocktails and wines, and an offer for people to try something new.”
That offer is a special opening discount: if you book in advance you get 25% off your food bill.
Cut & Chase has a 50 seating capacity and a private dining room for 14.
Prices on the Brunch menu at the restaurant range from £2.55 for a toasted bloomer upwards to £12.95 for a steak and egg breakfast.
Sample menus for lunch and evening meals give a flavour of the dishes on offer – but not the prices, as these were still to be finalised.
Starters include quinoa falafel bites and venison meatballs.
Main courses include the Cut & Chase Grill – a 6oz sirloin steak, quarter duck breast, Sykes House Farm sausage, flat field mushroom with garlic butter, vine ripened tomatoes & free range farm egg.
Two more of the Cut & Chase dishes
Still room for pud? How about an orange & honeycomb cheesecake with a duet of orange & crème anglaise drizzle.
If you just want a drink at the bar, it serves a range of cocktails by mixologist Joel, as well as wine, spirits and beer.
While Cut & Chase officially opens on Wednesday, a private function will try out the restaurant on Tuesday (May 31).
