Something tasty has opened in York.
The little sister of the Luxury Ice Cream Company – better known as LICC – Fabulously Rich is bringing a slice of baked heaven to the Shambles.
The bakehouse and gelato shop opened on Monday this week, and offers a delectable range of gelato, sundaes, brownies, cookie pies and more.
YorkMix spoke to owner Stef Blair to find out more.
“We were thinking of something different to do over [at LICC],” said Stef. “So we started doing baking and started selling all the bakes over there – and it just completely took off.”
Stef, along with her partner Kelly Blair, have owned this particular shop since October 2021 as Mrs B’s Emporium of Gifts – which also sold LICC ice cream, including a flavour inspired by York’s very own Purpleman!
“We knew that we wanted to eventually do a refurb. We wanted to turn it into a bakehouse and bring all of our bakes that we’re making over here as well.”
And now that moment has arrived.
“All of our bakes are very over the top, big, luscious – fabulously rich, if you will. Things that make us stand out from your traditional bakery.
“I can’t settle for just being mediocre and just getting by – we want to be the best.”

The shop will offer anything from old school cake to blondies and brownies, and also cookie pies and cookie slabs – with different bakes featuring every week.
Selections today included Wispa caramel cookie slab, Biscoff mini egg rocky road, white chocolate raspberry cookie pie, and Kinder Bueno cookie dough caramel cornflake brownie.
“We’re really proud of the recipes that we’ve perfected. This is a new venture for us.
“It’s fun just to come up with the craziest and biggest ideas that we can have and put them all into a bake.
“If you get a cookie pie it can tend to last two days because it’s so big to eat.”
The bakehouse will also be introducing vegan and gluten free options too.

Everything is homemade by Stef and her partner Kelly on the Shambles.
“It’s just the two of us. I think the unique thing for us is that as owners, we are the ones that are making the products, but we’re also the ones that are serving it to you as well.
“We definitely are looking at getting a baker for the next little while because we can’t do it all.”
The new venture is also looking to bring in around eight new positions.
And there’s already a new project in the works…
“We do have another up and coming project that we are working on, which is where our bakes are being made a stone’s throw away from the shop.
“We’re trying to keep it a big surprise.”

The response so far has been “fantastic. The support we’ve got from people on the street popping their heads in to have a nosey and given us some words of encouragement, or shared our photos online – that’s what pushes you to keep going.
“It’s day three but we’ve already had to restock quite a bit of stuff.
“We’re really big on reaching the local population, but the Shambles is very heavy tourist footfall – so getting our name out globally as well.”
The bakehouse and gelato shop will be open every day from 10am to around 5pm, though Stef says that it could be open potentially until six if they’re super busy – especially in the summer.
