A York primary school has reported its first cases of Covid-19.
Hempland Primary School off Stockton Lane has written to parents to inform them of the situation.
The letter states: “We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.
“We know that you may find this concerning but are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.
“Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus will be a mild illness.”
The children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case will be staying at home for 14 days.
The school remains open.
In a message to parents, head teacher Lee Haynes said: “As cases of the virus in York increase we are seeing more schools across the city being affected and unfortunately this has been the case at Hempland.
“Our extensive planning and precautionary measures have meant we have been able to respond quickly and effectively to close the affected bubble.
“We will be providing online learning resources for all children required to self-isolate.”
