One young York man owes his freedom today to firefighters.

Somehow the 12-year-old boy got stuck in mud on Clifton Backies last night (Wednesday, July 5).

A fire crew from Acomb was called out at 7.29pm and found he was lodged in the mud up to his hip.

Firefighters used a ladder, a throw line and a small shovel to dig him out. Happily the boy was unharmed by his sticky experience.

There’s only one last question – after this hot dry spell how did anyone find enough mud to get stuck in?
