Arsonists targeted a children’s play area in York on Wednesday evening (February 7).
Firefighters were called to the Grange Lane Play Area, near Askham Lane, at 6.58pm.
One crew from the Acomb station attended to find playground equipment on fire.
They extinguished the flames using knapsack sprayers.
A spokesperson for the North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: “The cause of fire is believed to be deliberate.”
Westfield ward councillor and City of York Council deputy leader Andrew Waller tweeted that he has asked for the damaged material to be removed.
He also urged anyone with information about what happened to contact police on 101.
