Fire and water damage at a York GP surgery has forced it to close.
At about 7.35am on Wednesday (December 28) firefighters from Acomb were called to a report of flooding inside the surgery at 32 Clifton.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “On arrival this was found to be due to a fire to a water heater in a cupboard which had burst a pipe causing flooding to the basement and ground floor.
“The fire was out on arrival of crews who used small tools to make the area safe.”

The surgery at 32 Clifton is part of the York Medical Group. To ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum, the group has made alternative arrangements for its patients and staff.
While it is closed for repairs, appointments and prescription collections scheduled to take place there have been transferred to the practice on Water Lane in York.
Head of operations for York Medical Group Tess Johnston said:
We appreciate that the temporary closure will cause inconvenience for some patient but are working as hard and as fast as we can to get the site open as soon as possible.
I’d like to thank our patients for bearing with us while an assessment and clean up take place.
If patients need any help or advice they are asked to call or visit any other York Medical Group surgery, or go to the website.
York Medical Group will provide an update on the temporary closure as soon as possible. In the meantime help and advice is available from the group’s other surgeries.
