Firefighters tackled two fires started deliberately in different parts of the county overnight.
At 8.55pm on Wednesday, a Selby crew were called to a pile of rubbish on fire near Abbots Road in the town.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The cause of this was deliberate and crews used knapsack sprayers and spades to extinguish the fire. The incident was left in the hands of police.”
Then, at 2.58am this morning (Thursday), traffic police called fire crews to an incident at Gristhwaite Lane, Topcliffe.
The spokesperson said: “Thirsk and Ripon crews responded to a fire in the open which was found to consist mostly of wooden potato pallets. Hose reels used to extinguish.”
