A new fashion store is planning to move in to York city centre.
In what is a welcome reversal to the trend of recent shop closures, the footwear and fashion brand Size? is opening a branch here.
It is planning to turn the former Cloggs shoe shop on the corner of St Sampson’s Square and Feasegate into its latest store.
Like Cloggs, Size? is part of the JD Sports Fashion group. Established in 2000, Size? sells leading brands of footwear, apparel and accessories.
Among its brands are Nike, Reebok, The North Face, Vans, Diadora, Tommy Hilfiger and Patagonia.
Initially set up to trial edgier product collections before introducing them to the mass market through the JD shops, the Size? now has more than 30 UK shops, as well as branches in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.
Heritage colour
The building it is moving into is a corner property formed of two shopping units jointed together.
The easterly part of the building is Grade II listed. It was previously a late 18th century house.
Planning documents submitted to City of York Council show that a new changing room is to be added.
Other changes are cosmetic, and they plan a new colour finish to the fascias, shopfront frames and pilasters. The applicants say: “The heritage green has been specially chosen for the York store due to its location in a conservation area.”
JD Sports closed down Cloggs earlier in the year. That left Feasegate with only one standalone shop – another shoe shop, Hotter.
