A popular charity concert is returning to York this weekend.
The annual York Brass Against Cancer concert is back for its fourth instalment, and will once again be raising vital funds for a worthy cause – York Against Cancer.
This year, it will feature two of the finest brass bands – Hammonds Band and The Shepherd Group Brass Band.
York Brass Against Cancer is at the Grand Opera House on Sunday 23 February at 2pm.
Hosted by David Hoyle, the charity event will be fundraising to support cancer patients in York and across northeast Yorkshire.
A spokesperson for the show said, “This is always a fantastic show bringing the best bands in the country into York, with previous top-class bands performing including; Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke and Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
“All proceeds from the event go to our local charity York Against Cancer, whose work in and around the local area supports people impacted by cancer.”
Hammonds Band is one of the country’s premier brass bands and has performed in venues throughout the UK, Europe and across the World.
The Shepherd Group Brass Band is from the city of York and, having had several name changes over the years, now has five bands under the umbrella of ‘The Shepherd Group Brass Band’.
Julie Russell, CEO at York Against Cancer, said, “By coming along to the show you’ll be helping us help cancer patients. We support cancer patients in York and across northeast Yorkshire.
“We help them with practical things like transport to radiotherapy treatment in Leeds and we also help to send them for short breaks in Filey and Yapham and there is also the Levison Centre where we offer care and support to everybody affected by cancer.
“Please come along and support the event because by doing that you’re helping us help others.”
Tickets for York Brass Against Cancer start from £18.43, and are available via the Grand Opera House website.
