Seven years after its launch, TakeOver Festival 2016 is celebrating its homecoming to the newly renovated York Theatre Royal.
This unforgettable multi-arts festival is run entirely by 12- to 26-year-olds who, with support from York Theatre Royal staff, have programmed, prepared and produced a line-up of theatre and events welcoming the inquisitive, the adventurous and the imaginative.
The festival promises a week of pioneering new productions and fresh talent, presenting something for all ages as we celebrate the rebirth of York Theatre Royal.
This year we are taking over the Main House, the Studio, the Bistro and even putting a TakeOver spin on the menus in the bistro and our café counter.
This is a particularly exciting year for TakeOver, as we are delighted to announce our very first festival patrons: singer-song writer Ben Leftwich, and Yorkshire chef Sam Stern.
Sam says of TakeOver: “It’s a fantastic experience for all those involved and brings fresh faces and enthusiasm into the theatre.”
Ben agrees: “It’s really humbling to be asked to act as a patron for the TakeOver Festival 2016.
“The arts are the most important thing in the world to me and I’m looking forward to learning from, and sharing ideas with these amazing young creatives.”
Join us for a show, drop in to sample the delicious guest menus, sign up for a workshop or celebrate the weekend at our TakeOver barbecue on Saturday!
