If it was your New Year’s resolution to get fit, why not go the whole (fat-free) hog and sign up for the York marathon?
The race is on to snap up places in at the 2016 Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon, which takes place in York on Sunday October 9.
Places went on sale at 9am on Wednesday (January 6) for the fourth running of the event. It has been a sell-out every year.
Raised millions
Cllr Nigel Ayre, York council’s executive member for culture, leisure and tourism, said:
Whether you’re a regular marathon runner or new to this distance, we’d encourage you to sign up soon to this ever popular event.
Chosen charities
Runners can opt to raise money for any good cause of their choice but are especially encouraged to support one of the event’s partner charities:
The marathon is part of the lasting legacy of Jane Tomlinson CBE, who raised almost £2m for charity by tackling a series of epic challenges, including cycling over 4,000 miles across America, despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
