What marks out a superfan from the rest? Ladies and gentlemen, please meet Annette Swiers…
Or as she is known from today… Mrs York Mix Radio!!
Annette, a driver for Connexions buses in York, has been a big supporter of YorkMix Radio since its launch in January.
So when she heard about the competition to win the station’s £1,000 marketing budget, she had a plan.
To bake 100 of her popular cupcakes with the logo and give them out to people in York who agreed to download the radio smartphone app.
Tattoo too
Then she saw how BreakfastMix presenter Laura Castle’s mum Nicky got a YorkMix logo tattooed on her foot.
That persuaded Annette to go the extra mile and do the same – but on the back of her neck, where everyone can see. “It’s all booked, it’s all paid for,” she told Laura and co-host Ben Fry on the breakfast show this morning.
But then she had a new idea. “I thought, you know what would really make them flip their mind. I’m going to change my name.”
She reminded the presenters that they had once got her name wrong on air. “Now you’re never going to be able to forget my name – because I have officially, legally, by deed poll changed my name… to Mrs York Mix Radio!
“My first name is York, my middle name is Mix. And my surname is Radio.”
Mrs Radio, who lives in Dishforth, said she is now getting all her personal documents changed, including her drivers licence and passport.
Ben and Laura loved the idea of her showing her passport when she goes on holiday. Customs won’t believe her!
“But I’ll have my name on the back of my neck!” York reminded them.
Unusually Ben was almost lost for words. “I’m utterly shocked!” he said.
Thank you Mrs Radio. Mrs York Mix Radio.
