A new store will open soon on one of York’s premier shopping streets.
Fashion brand Porters is moving in to number 5 Stonegate.
The large shop, found between the Punch Bowl pub and Wild & Westbrooke, was previously home to clothing retailer Joules.
Porters has two other branches, one in Harrogate and another in Ilkley.
The Stonegate store is now being fitted out behind papered windows.
It says on its website: “Excitement is building in York as the highly anticipated arrival of Porters draws near.
“This soon-to-open shop promises a unique and diverse shopping experience for locals and visitors alike.
“Nestled in the heart of the historic city on Stonegate, Porters aims to blend modern aesthetics with a touch of traditional charm.
“From speciality goods to curated finds, the shop plans to offer a carefully selected range of products, catering to the varied tastes of its customers.
“With its impending opening, Porters is poised to become a vibrant addition to York’s retail landscape, contributing to the city’s dynamic atmosphere.”
It stocks “beautiful brands for men and women such as Guide London, Belstaff, Claudio Lugli, Nudie, Scotch & Soda, Replay”.

Porters will open from 10am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday, 10am-6pm on Fridays, 9am-6pm on Saturdays and 10am-5pm on Sundays.
It is the latest in a run of store openings in York city centre, including Danish homewares specialist Søstrene Grene, and menswear shops Slater Menswear and Master Debonair.
Porters is advertising three jobs in the new store: assistant manager, sales assistant and stock controller. Find out more here.
The opening comes a little over a year since Joules closed its doors. Its last day was 28 January 2023, after the parent company went into administration.
