Essential resurfacing works on Micklegate and George Hudson Street throughout March

27 Feb 2013 @ 10.13 am  Press Release

Issued by City of York Council

City of York Council will be carrying out essential carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing works on Micklegate and George Hudson Street throughout March.

The work will start on Saturday 2 March and is programmed to last for approximately three weekends – Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 8am to 6pm.

In order to carry out these works safely a temporary road closure of both Micklegate and George Hudson Street will be necessary whilst works are taking place.

A signed diversion route for local and through traffic will be in operation during these times. The road closure will be supervised at each end to prevent unauthorised access. Vehicular access is restricted during the works and anyone requiring access on to Micklegate or George Hudson Street by vehicle, from adjacent properties, must inform the traffic management operatives on site and following any instructions issued. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.

Bus stops within the works area will not be in use during these works. Please ring 01904 551400 for bus route information.

As both Micklegate and George Hudson Street will be closed during working hours it is advisable that any deliveries due to take place during this period be amended outside the hours of the closure. Outside the proposed working hours, the road will remain open as usual but there will be minor works carried out each evening under local traffic management to progress the works.

As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience and everything reasonably possible will be done to keep this to a minimum.

The contractor carrying out the work will be Bardon Contracting Ltd who will be responsible for public safety.
