Fire crews have made a crane safe that partially collapsed in York city centre this afternoon (Friday).

It happened at the corner of Layerthorpe and Hallfield Road. A large section of the crane came away and was suspended precariously over the road.

The area was sealed off to traffic by police. Large numbers of police vehicles and several fire crews were sent to the incident.

No one was hurt.

The crane company were due to come with a second crane to remove the damaged parts.

Hallfield Road has now reopened.

The crane looks to have been used in a large new development on the corner of the road.
