Police today closed part of York’s outer ring road over concerns for the safety of a man on a bridge.

The man was spotted on the bridge on the A1237 roundabout near the Wetherby Whaler at 1.20pm on Monday (August 14).

Police were called after the man’s behaviour led to concerns for his safety.

Officers dealing with the incident closed the A1237 between the Shipton Road roundabout and York Business Park.

At 2.30pm a police spokeswoman reported:

We can now confirm that the incident has been brought to a safe conclusion and the man is now in the care of professionals.

The road has now fully reopened.
