The emergency services were called to an incident close to the railway in York last night (Monday).
It happened near Tadcaster Road at 9.34pm.
Police were first at the incident and then called on the fire service for their help.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Just before 9pm on Monday, we received a call which was mental health related, near to the train tracks near to the centre of York.
“Police, fire and ambulance were all in attendance and brought the person to safety.
“This person is now receiving the relevant support.”

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from Acomb assisted North Yorkshire Police with an incident close to the railway line.
“Crews gained access using a triple extension ladder for police officers and left the incident in the hands of a Network Rail officer.”
