Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to a potential rescue mission in a York river early this morning.
A man was in the River Foss, close to Clifford’s Tower, at 3.27am.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Acomb and York crews attended the scene where members of the public reported a male in the river up to his waist.
“Fire crews set up a 9m ladder while the male self-rescued by walking out of the river.
“The man, aged in his early 20s, and believed intoxicated, was left with police and ambulance.”
