The village of Elvington near York is a hub for fantastic comedy.
All thanks to Andy Owen, clinical physician and events promoter, who first started a comedy night in the village nearly 10 years ago – and has attracted comedy greats such as Justin Moorhouse, Tom Wrigglesworth and Kiri Pritchard-McClean.
The first Elvington Comedy Night for 2024 – and St Patrick’s Day special – will take place on Saturday 16 March at Elvington Village Hall and feature comedians Brennan Reece and Michael Legge.
Brennan Reece has appeared on everything from BBC’s Live At The Apollo to E4’s Celeb Coach Trip. Belfast’s Michael Legge has performed stand-up comedy all over the UK, and supported comedy greats on tour such as Alexei Sayle, Stewart Lee and Dylan Moran.
The next Elvington Comedy Night will take place on Thursday 4 July and feature comedians Tez Ilyas and Carl Hutchinson.
Tez Ilyas will be previewing new material for his upcoming tour at Elvington.
“I like to think it really helps builds community spirit, and it’s something different for a small rural village,” said organiser Andy Owen on the Elvington Comedy Night. “Long may it keep being popular!”
Tickets for the comedy night are £15. Tickets for the Saturday 16 March show are available here, and tickets for the Thursday 4 July show are available here.
