Detectives investigating a robbery in York have released an EFIT image of a man they would like to trace.

Officers are hunting two men after a 19-year-old woman was robbed on Layerthorpe in the early hours of Tuesday 15 January 2013.

She was walking home alone after a night out with friends when she was approached by two men as she passed the old ATS car park. They grabbed hold of her before searching her handbag and stealing her Samsung mobile phone, a bunch of keys and a small quantity of cash.

Her mobile phone was recovered a short time later at the junction with Fifth Avenue and Glen Avenue but her keys are yet to be found. They were hanging from a large red plastic key fob and another key ring with a picture on one side and the words VIP written on the reverse.

Officers have produced an EFIT of one of the men, who was wearing a maroon hooded top at the time of the incident.

He is described as white, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, with a round face and short, brown receding hair. He has small eyes, bushy eyebrows, with a thin upper lip and a thick lower lip.

The other man officers are looking for is described as white, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, and around 6ft tall. He was wearing a grey hooded top underneath a dark jacket.

Officers are appealing to anyone who recognises the men from their descriptions to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Fiona Wynne, of York CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who can help identify these two men to get in touch as soon as possible.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has come across the stolen property.

“This was a frightening incident for the victim and it is important that we locate the men responsible.”

If you can help officers with their enquiries, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Fiona Wynne or York CID.

If you don’t want to speak to the police directly, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
