A man has died after crashing his car into a wall in York.
The 53-year-old from Selby was driving a red Vauxhall Corsa on Lowther Street when it crashed into a wall about 6.45pm on Thursday (November 6).
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to York Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The accident took place on Lowther Street in The Groves, opposite Park Grove School and close to the junction with Jackson Street.
“A red car veered off the road and collided with a wall,” said Traffic Sergeant Sean Grey of York police, who was at the scene.
“Unfortunately the driver has passed away at York Hospital.”
He said only one vehicle was involved in the accident. No one else was hurt. His family have been informed but the police are not yet in a position to name him.
The road was cordoned off for much of the evening. A collision investigation unit was on Lowther Street, with a police photographer taking pictures of the car.
Lowther Street was later reopened.
Officers are appealing for people to come forward who witnessed the collision or anyone with information that could assist the investigation.
