A new bar opening in York is promising something different.
Polymath is set to open on Grape Lane, in what was previously home to Japanese restaurant Izakaya.
Izakaya’s owners Adam Johnson and Danny Victory promised that a new venture would be opening at the Grape Lane venue in early March – and this is it!
Polymath will be having a soft launch opening on Friday 8 March – with limited spots available to the public for the family, friends and press event. If you’d like to be one of the few to experience Polymath on its opening night, subscribe to the mailing list through this link.
On the website, Polymath describes itself as a “diverse hangout bar where drink, food & events fuse in style”.
It goes on: “Explore a daily array of innovative cocktails, mocktails, craft beers and ever-evolving pop-up kitchens, all created to captivate.
“Hangout and immerse yourself in our distinctive ambiance as live music and weekly events add a touch of energy, ensuring each visit is a memorable experience.”
First up is the pop-up kitchen Banditos, which specialises in South American cuisine, from local chef Joe Probert. The menu will include soft shell tacos with fillings like baja fish, beef birria and spiced cauliflower, as well as rice bowls and churros.
The kitchen will be open from 12pm till 9pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
A Sunday lunch offering will also be available. The first Sunday lunch is being served on Mother’s Day (Sunday 10 March) – and they are open to reservations for this one Sunday only. Polymath will offer a strict walk-in policy after this date. Please email [email protected] to make your reservation.
Not only are they set to serve food and drink but they will also be holding regular event nights too such as quiz nights, open mic, board game nights, and DJs.
“We are thrilled to introduce Polymath to the York community,” said co-owner Adam Johnson.
“At Polymath, we believe in offering more than just a typical bar experience. That’s why we’re excited to host a variety of themed events throughout the week, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
