A disco funk legend is coming to York this summer.
Live at York Museum Gardens have today (Monday) announced their latest headliner for their summer concert series – Nile Rodgers and Chic!
Nile Rodgers will be bringing his iconic band to the York gardens on Friday 4 July, alongside special guest Jalen Ngonda and more to be announced.
A York exclusive postcode presale (YO1, YO10, YO19, YO23, YO24, YO26, YO30, YO31 & YO32) will go on sale at 9am on Thursday 30 January – tickets available here.
Tickets will then go on general sale on Friday 31 January at 9am. Tickets will be available here.
Nile Rodgers and Chic is the second headliner for Live at York Museum Gardens 2025, after it was announced last year that Manchester rock band Elbow would kick off this year’s festival.
The inaugural concert weekend was a sell-out success in 2024, and saw 12,000 music fans enjoy performances from the likes of Jack Savoretti, Peter Doherty, and York-favourites Shed Seven.
However, the future of the outdoor concerts was put at risk when a single noise complaint led to a review of the premises licence of Museum Gardens – but after a licensing hearing it was decided that no further action would be taken.
Nile Rodgers, a founding member of Chic, is responsible for perennial hits such as ‘Everybody Dance’, ‘I Want Your Love’ and ‘Good Times’ – which has become one of the most-sampled songs of all time.
He has also collaborated with other musical legends including David Bowie, Madonna, Coldplay, Beyoncé and Daft Punk; with their 2013 collaboration ‘Get Lucky’ now one of the UK’s best-ever selling singles.
Live at York Museum Gardens is a joint collaboration between Leeds-based Fututresound Group and York Museums Trust.
Rachel Hill, project manager at Futuresound Group said: “We’re incredibly excited to be working with York Museums Trust for our second year on ‘Live at York Museums Gardens’.
“Announcing the one and only Nile Rodgers and CHIC performing in the Gardens is just surreal, especially off the back of Elbow selling out!
“2025’s Live at York Museum Gardens series is shaping up to be an unmissable addition to the city’s Summer calendar.”
Richard Saward, head of operations at York Museums Trust, said: “We are beyond delighted to welcome Nile Rogers and CHIC to York Museum Gardens this summer.
“With the band’s unbelievable repertoire and legendary live reputation, we’re already looking forward to a fantastic evening with everyone in full boogie mode.”
