A wave of hand fans and a twirl of petticoats will sweep across the city once again – as the York Georgian Festival returns this summer.
The four-day festival will take place from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 August 2024.
Organised by York Mansion House, this year it will feature star guest Horrible Histories author Terry Deary, a Bridgerton-themed candelit cruise, family fun trails – and the first York Georgian Ball.
The festival returns after a successful inaugural event last year and a VisitYork Tourism Awards nomination.
Terry Deary, one of the country’s most beloved writers, will be showcasing his new book A History of Britain in Ten Enemies and is the perfect event for any grown-up fans of Horrible Histories.
This year, York Mansion House will host the first York Georgian Ball at the Great Assembly Rooms, otherwise known as Ask Italian on Blake Street. The historically accurate ballroom held dances and dinners in the 18th and 19th century – and now the 21st century too!
Guests will be invited to dress in their finest, and can expect a two-course dinner, music from Eboracum Baroque, a dance mistress on hand to teach a few moves, and an open dance floor.
Sarah White, events and marketing manager for York Mansion House and the festival creator said, “I am delighted to be working with some of the most beautiful museums, venues and minds in York to bring this festival to life.
“We want to showcase the impact of the time period on the modern day, and we also want to dance the night away!”
Throughout the festival there will be tours, talks, and hidden Georgian gems across the city.
