Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident which left a cyclist requiring extensive surgery.
The man was riding on the Tang Hall cycle track going towards Osbaldwick from the town centre at around 8.20pm on Tuesday 12 March.
He collided with a large branch laid across the cycle path shortly after spotting a group of youths.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This caused him to fall off his bike resulting in a broken elbow that required extensive surgery.
“We’d like to hear from people who witnessed the collision, have information about the youths that fled or from the woman cyclist who helped him home.”
