More than 100 staff from one of York’s leading businesses are taking part in a city-wide cycle challenge.
Aviva workers will set off from the offices in Wellington Row on 14 September aiming to raise £10,000 for York children’s charity The Island.
They can choose from three routes so cyclists of all abilities can to take part.
With recent headlines underlining the fact that one in nine of York’s children lives in poverty and with a serious increase in mental health problems for local young people, the work of The Island is something that many Aviva colleagues feel very strongly about and wish to support.
The Island’s CEO Nigel Poulton said “We are so grateful to Aviva colleagues for organising this fantastic event.
“We don’t always see the suffering of the children who are right on our doorstep as it takes place behind closed doors, but we know how hard it is for many families at the moment.”
Sally Dillon, Aviva York site lead, said “I’m delighted we are running a cycling challenge to support the Island Charity.
“It’s an amazing charity – we have had a great uptake of colleagues getting involved to support this. As well as supporting the charity this really helps our sustainability agenda by getting more people cycling.”
