Fire crews were called out to an incident in a village south of Selby last night (Wednesday).
It happened in Camblesforth at 7.03pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from Selby responded to reports of a fire in the dining room of a property.
“The crew used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish.
“The cause of this fire is believed to have been a lamp that had magnified sunlight on to a wooden table causing it to smoulder.”
