A road that was blocked by a multi-vehicle crash, causing severe problems, has now reopened.

The collision happened on the A64 eastbound, just before the junction with the A19 at the Fulford interchange.

The incident was first reported at 7.16am today (Wednesday). It had reopened by 9.52am.

It caused severe delays. By 8.20am there were six miles of tailbacks, with congestion to A1237 / A64 / Manor Heath Copmanthorpe roundabout.

At that point, it was taking at least an hour to travel through. The incident also had a knock-on effect on traffic around York.

There were delays on various stretches of the outer ring road, on Bishopthorpe Road and Holgate Road.

By 11am the worst of the problems had eased.
