Emergency services went to the scene of a crash in York city centre this morning (Friday).
A car overturned and smashed into railings outside the Principal Hotel next to York Station.
The silver Audi has hit with such force that it has knocked over a bollard, buckled the railings and lifted paving slabs.
It appears to be the only vehicle involved. The Audi’s airbags have deployed.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “We received an emergency call at 6.52am on Friday morning to report a collision involving one car on Station Road, York.
“An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to York Hospital.”
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York and Acomb responded to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision in which the vehicle landed on its roof.
“All occupants of the vehicle were out and in the care of ambulance crews. Crews righted the vehicle and made the scene safe.”
The road was closed for a number of hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
The car has now been removed and the road reopened.
At 8am, North Yorkshire Police had said: “We’re currently at the scene of a collision near the railway station in York.
“Station Road is closed at Blossom Street and Leeman Road to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.
“If you’re travelling by road this morning, please avoid the area if possible and be aware of traffic disruption on the surrounding roads.”
They then confirmed the reopening: “This incident has now been dealt with and the road has re-opened. Thank you.”
The road closure caused significant congestion on routes around the station, including Leeman Road.
