Emergency services were called to a crash on the A64 that left a stretch of the road closed for nine hours.
Police closed the westbound carriageway at about 1.30am from the A1036 at Askham to the A1237 at Copmanthorpe.
Officers warned at the time that the road would be closed for some time while they worked at the scene.
Diversions were then put in place taking traffic onto the A1237, then A59, then back to junction 47 of the A1M.
The A64 fully reopened at 10.40am.
Police say they will be issuing a witness appeal – we will update when that comes through.
