The A1M is not the place to be this afternoon (Wednesday).
A collision on the road earlier this afternoon has led to long delays.
The accident was reported shortly before 2pm on the southbound carriageway.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2pm today North Yorkshire Police received reports of a single vehicle collision on the A1 southbound just north of junction 47 near Allerton Park.

“A black Ford Focus had collided with the central reservation. The female driver is not believed to have suffered any injuries in the collision but was taken to hospital for a check up.”
The incident has since been cleared but it has led to delays of 49 minutes between junction 49 Ripon Road (Thirsk / Dishforth) and junction 48, the A6055 (Boroughbridge).
The average speed is 5mph.
At 2.38pm, Highways England reported: “There is approximately 6.3 miles of congestion on approach. Please allow plenty of extra time for your journey if you are travelling in the area.”
