Alex Higginson and Shannon May former managers of well-known and much-loved pub The Last Drop Inn on Colliergate, had their lives uprooted back in June when owners Black Sheep Brewery took the decision to close the venue without warning.
At the time Alex took to Facebook to share his shock
“ We are beyond upset. Our little pub, that we built from a shell of a building, has to close. We had no idea this was happening and so, we had no way of saying goodbye to our amazing, loyal customers, who have helped shape this building from a pub into a community.”
Many of their loyal following and local businesses expressed their sadness and surprise over the abrupt turn of events, leaving Alex, Shannon and their dog Tweed out of a job and with a wedding to save for it was not the summer they had expected.

Fast forward 3 months and Alex, Shannon & Tweed have found a new home as the managers of The Stone Trough Inn, located near Kirkham Abbey, nestled in area of outstanding natural beauty, with breathtaking views of the Howardian Hills.
“Our dream has always been to run a country pub together. We ran The Last Drop Inn in York for almost two years before being made redundant but managed to make good of a bad situation. Weare now living our dream -running a beautiful pub in a beautiful part of North Yorkshire . We truly believe that pubs are the centre of every community and intend to run The Stone Trough Inn, as just that: a community hub that serves outstanding food and a variety of well-kept real ales. We are over the moon to be here!”
The couple recently received a huge welcome via social media , from guests and suppliers alike.
Andy Herrington owner of Ainsty Ales was thrilled to see the couple take over the pub.
Shannon & Alex are looking forward to their first Christmas in their new home and are now taking bookings for the festive period. For more information contact them directly on 01653 618 713 or visit the Stone Trough Inn website.
