Issued by City of York Council
City of York Council is holding drop-in housing options sessions for older people following the publication of a new, updated edition of the Positive Ageing, Housing Choices booklet.
These new sessions follow the success of previous drop-ins which advised older residents, their carers and family members on any issue related to housing. Positive Ageing, Housing Choices was initially launched during Housing Week 2012 and the advice booklet has now been revised after consultation with Age UK York, York Older Peoples Assembly and Older Citizens Advocacy York as well as drawing on feedback from earlier sessions and guide readers.
This latest series of drop-in sessions will be running between May and June on the first Friday of the month, 1pm-2.30pm at Alex Lyon House, 5th Avenue, Tang Hall, Y031 0YB and on the third Friday of the month, 10am to noon at Auden House, Cemetery Road, YO10 5FD.
Councillor Tracey Simpson-Laing, Cabinet Member for Cabinet Member for Health, Housing and Adult Social Care, said: “It is great that more drop-in sessions are available to residents. They are particularly timely as we are offering support to people that are seeking to downsize.
“The sessions offer one-to-one advice for older pe ople, providing easy access to good guidance for anyone who has questions about their housing situation, such as their options to downsize, or how to stay independent in their own home.”
Feedback from the recent sessions was positive, with many saying that they were delighted that the council offers this support so Im really pleased that we will be able to reach out to even more people.
