A group of travellers have set up camp in Dringhouses next to a children’s playground on the Revival estate off the Askham Bar roundabout on Tadcaster Road.
The council’s Neighbourhood Enforcement team is taking steps to secure the necessary court orders to require them to leave.
Councillor Stephen Fenton has told YorkMix Radio there are about 9 or 10 vehicles arranged around the recreational space by a children’s playing space.
They arrived yesterday and the playing area is now unavailable because it’s not safe as there are a number of vehicles moving around.
He says residents are also concerned about the issues of rubbish and the fact that there are no toilet facilities.
He added, once the council has taken measures to get them to move on then there will be a clean up of the area if needed.
