York Light Opera Company are holding an open casting call for their upcoming production of Legally Blonde at York Theatre Royal next year – doggy style!
Yes, the York theatre company is looking for talented furry friends to star in the show as the beloved canine characters Bruiser and Rufus.
York Light are particularly looking for chihuahua and bulldog candidates, but will consider similar dogs for each role.
Your pup must have personality and stage presence and must be comfortable with loud music and applause.

To apply, simply send a recent photo, a brief bio of your dog and availability to [email protected] – with the subject line ‘Legally Blonde Dog Audition’.
Auditions will be held on Thursday 28 November from 7pm at the Lidgett Methodist Church in Acomb.
The promising pooches will need to be available for the performance dates, Thursday 13 to Saturday 22 February 2025.
Legally Blonde, a musical comedy based on the 2001 film that starred Reese Witherspoon, follows Elle Woods – a sorority girl with a heart of gold, as she tackles Harvard Law School to win back her man. But Elle discovers that she’s much more than just a pretty face, and proves that you can be both blonde and brilliant.
Tickets for York Light’s production of Legally Blonde are already on sale, and are available from £15 via the York Theatre Royal website.
