A man convicted of serious offences who went on the run is now back behind bars.
Jason Whiteoak was recognised by plain clothes police officers who were on duty in York.
They followed and approached Whiteoak before making the arrest at around 11.20am yesterday (Tuesday).
Whiteoak had been on the run for months. North Yorkshire Police had put out previous appeals to find the 52-year-old, who lives in Selby.
They said Whiteoak could present as a woman under the name Karla, one of a number of his identities.
He was captured on CCTV in Cambridge in February and was also spotted on the south coast.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Whiteoak has been returned to prison to serve the full jail sentence plus extra time for absconding.
“We would like to thank everyone who has shared information with the investigation team, and shared our appeals over the past two months.”
