York City Knights have paid a tribute to a former player who died yesterday,
In a statement on Twitter the Knights said “We can regretfully confirm that former player and 100 Club member Danny Sheehan passed away yesterday.
“Danny made 379 appearances for the Club after debuting in 1961 before going on to coach the team.
“Danny joined us for our Heritage Weekend and presented Ronan Dixon with his match shirt on Saturday.
“The thoughts of everyone at the Knights is with Danny’s family and friends at this time.”
The 79-year-old was taken ill at the LNER Community stadium on Saturday and was airlifted to hospital but didn’t make it.
Danny was inducted to the Knights hall of fame in 2015 scoring 89 tries and one goal in his time at the club.
