Turn again Whittington – and you’ll see a ruddy great train behind you.
Signal Box Theatre, NRM
Dec 10 to Jan 24
£12-32.50 (plus £1 transaction fee)
Dame Berwick Kaler and fellow cast members from Dick Whittington (and his Meerkat) have paid their first site visit to the Signal Box Theatre at the National Railway Museum – their new home for the panto season while York Theatre Royal is closed for a £4.1m redevelopment.
Returning for his 37th year (oh, yes he is), writer, director and bloomer-wearer extraordinaire Berwick said:
The laugh’s on him though because I’ve found a substitute theatre just a couple of hundred yards away from my beloved Theatre Royal.
Panto clan
Comedy sidekick Martin Barrass, high-kicking Suzy Cooper and villainous David Leonard (boo! hiss!) return as part of the dysfunctional panto family.
Also taking to the stage are Brummie AJ Powell, Pocklington’s own Harry Hughes and Vincent Gray, who was last seen treading the boards at York Theatre Royal in 2012’s Robin Hood and his Merry Mam.
