A York gallery has raised more than £9,000 for a charity deeply close to their hearts.
The Braithwaite Gallery, located on Low Petergate in York, have been hosting a winter fundraiser for young suicide prevention charity Papyrus.
The special raffle will give art lovers the opportunity to win a stunning original painting by renowned artist Gary Walton, while supporting an incredible cause.
The lucky winner of the raffle will take home Gary Walton’s original artwork, ‘The Caspian’, valued at £795. Tickets are priced at just £2 each in the gallery, or five for £10 online at the gallery’s website.
The winner will be drawn on Tuesday 31 December 2024, with all proceeds supporting Papyrus.
Papyrus is a cause deeply personal to gallery owners Anne and Mark Braithwaite, who lost their son Jake to suicide in 2018, aged just 20.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for young people under the age of 35 in the UK. In memory of their son Jake, the gallery has been raising funds to support PAPYRUS’s vital work.
Anne Braithwaite, owner of The Braithwaite Gallery, said; “In 2023-24 we have raised more than £9,000 for the charity, in memory of Jake.
“None of this would be possible without the generosity of our artists and lovely customers, who we can’t thank enough.
“Perhaps by raising money to support this charity, we can give another family another day with their loved one.”
In addition to the winter fundraiser, several other paintings and limited edition prints by artists Anthony Marn, Paul Heeley, and Lyndsey Selley are also available for purchase, with proceeds donated to PAPYRUS.
The Braithwaite Gallery has raised nearly £20,000 for various charitable causes over the past decade – including Mind, Dementia UK, Choose2Youth, NHS Charities Together, and the York Flood Appeal.
