YorkMix are celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) by championing women in business in a special networking event.
The event will take place on IWD (Friday 8 March) at Pink by Impossible, York, and is an opportunity to meet some brilliant women in business in the York and North Yorkshire area.
Plus, there are lots of events happening in the city marking International Women’s Week (2-10 March) – from live poetry, to creative workshops to exhibitions. We’ve put together a guide with some highlights below.

International Women’s Day Networking Event
YorkMix are celebrating International Women’s Day – by championing the brilliant women in business. As a celebration of International Women’s day, YorkMix Radio will be hosting a FREE networking event on Friday the 8th of March at Impossible York in the Pink room 3pm – 6pm.
No agenda, just come down, grab a coffee and meet some brilliant women in business in the York and North Yorkshire area. Presenters Laura Castle from the breakfast show & Victoria from the mid-morning show will be there to interview some people, along with other YorkMix staff, chatting, networking and sharing content across our platforms for the afternoon, to celebrate International Women’s day!

HerSay Exhibition Public View

Empowering and Inspiring Women in business in York
For the third year running, The City of York Council in partnership with NatWest is inviting York businesses to celebrate International Women’s Day. The aim of this event is to support female entrepreneurship in the city; to inspire women to either start, build or scale their business. All York businesses are welcome to attend, whether it be women business owners, senior managers or women thinking about starting a business. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.

Yorkits Workshop
Help tackle period poverty and mark International Women’s Day by creating washable, re-usable feminine hygiene kits for girls in developing countries as part of the annual Yorkits workshop. Run by Rotary York Ainsty, Yorkits is a hands-on community project bringing women and girls from York and the region together, to make feminine hygiene kits which change the lives of young girls by keeping them in education during menstruation.
The workshops are a chance for women of all ages to come together to give girls across the globe access to education, health, hygiene and dignity.

Femiknits – Sew, You Wanna Weave a Revolution?
How do textiles stitch together fabric, survival, and rebellion? How do we represent our ideas, identities, or secret messages with the fabric of our lives?This presentation will weave together examples of feminist textiles protests known as ‘craftivism’ (craft + activism) from around the globe with Claire Richey’s ‘auto-ethnographic’ experiences as an ‘artivist’ (artist + activist). Textiles artwork will be on display, and knitting or crocheting amongst the audience is encouraged. Followed by a Q&A and an open discussion.

Make Space – Rethinking Parks for Girls and Women
Join us to share ideas in an interactive session that is thought provoking and empowering! What makes a park ‘welcoming’ to women and girls?
