York Musical Theatre Company’s spring show is the much loved musical Annie, and after children’s auditions last autumn and adult auditions earlier this year, the full cast is now announced.

More than 120 girls auditioned for the parts of Annie and her famous gang of orphan girls including Molly, Pepper and Duffy. Girls came from all over the region to audition and two teams of girls will take part in the show.

The role of Annie has been given to Kaia Stainton, aged 11 from Wigginton Primary School. Kathryn Addison will play the role of Miss Hannigan, following her performance as Miss Babs in Acorn Antiques The Musical.

Richard Bainbridge takes on the role of billionaire Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks, Toni Feetenby makes a welcome return to the Company as Warbucks’ ever loyal secretary Grace and the nasty, money-hungry pair of Rooster and Lily will be played by Matthew Ainsworth and Anna Mitchelson.

And the all-important part of Sandy the dog? He’s a lovely labradoodle called Barney, owned by Martin Rowley.

Set in 1930s New York, this multi-award winning and heart-warming musical follows brave young orphan Annie, as she tries to escape the grips of the nasty Miss Hannigan and is taken under the wing of US billionaire Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks.

Featuring popular classic songs including Hard Knock Life, Easy Street and Tomorrow, the show will be directed by Paul Laidlaw, with choreography by Nic Jenkins following her recent work with the company on Acorn Antiques The Musical.
