Updated with video: Car crashes into a pub in York city centre
A car crashed into a pub in York this morning.
The car left the road and hit the window of BrewDog on Micklegate.
Police, fire and ambulance responded to the incident, which was reported at 9.17am.
North Yorkshire Police said the accident happened when the driver of the red Nissan Leaf was taken ill at the wheel.
This morning police tweeted: “All measures are being taken to keep the community safe and resolve the issue as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Fire crews made the car safe. Barriers were put around the building and the area is cordoned off. Council staff worked to make the building safe.
The red Nissan Micra has been badly damaged. The doorway and front of the pub has been wrecked in the collision.
There were members of the BrewDog team there today, but they didn’t want to comment.
They did say no one had been hurt. And on the pub’s Facebook page, they wrote: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be closed for today.
“Everyone is okay but until the site clear & safe we will be closed.”
We don’t have any details on the condition of the driver.
