A car crashed into an object and came to a halt on a rail level crossing in York – causing a serious risk to others.
Now police are appealing for witnesses to ascertain what happened.
The incident happened on the level crossing on Haxby Road in York at 12.45am on Sunday (June 24). The car involved was a red Volkswagen.
Police say the Volkswagen “collided with a fixed object” then came to a stop on the level crossing itself, “posing a substantial risk to others”.
The driver was taken to hospital following the collision with non-life threatening injures and had since been released. No other persons were injured.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said:
We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
In particular, we are appealing for information from anyone who saw the collision occur or events leading up to it. We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage.
A 26 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and careless driving.
