Firefighters were surprised to discover the reason they were called to one job out last night.
They responded to an alarm going off in a building in Strensall at 6.51pm on Wednesday.
On arrival they discovered it had been activated – by cannabis smoke from people who had broken into the property.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Huntington responded to a fire alarm activation within the premises which was found to be due to cannabis smoke following a break-in.
“Police were requested.”
